Someone who reads discussion groups but rarely posts is lurking. Often discouraged in small BBS discussion groups and some very professional ones, it is considered good (and wise) behavior in larger groups, especially usenet. If you post a question or comment that people feel they've just beaten to death, you will get flamed.
