A unit of data that is exchanged on a LAN. Frame formatting implements an access protocol for the purpose of enabling communications between nodes on a LAN (Ethernet, Token Ring, and so on). A frame should not be confused with a packet, which is encapsulated within a frame for transport across the LAN.
