A network protocol that can work with non proprietary routers. Traditional routers use the network packet header fields to identify network addresses (network numbers)/node addresses for ultimate source and destination nodes (or hosts) for packets of data. This scheme for routing packets across internetworks is used OSI, NetWare (IPX), TCP/IP, and AppleTalk network protocols. |
