When installing a card, certain "resources" are needed: these often include a DMA channel, I/O Base address, and IRQ. Although these are detected and set automatically with Plug and Play compliant cards, you will have to set them using jumpers or the setup program to store the resource values in non-volatile RAM when installing a "legacy" (pre-Plug and Play) card.
